Many of Katica‘s haikus unveil a sort of captivating existential unrest, but the most appealing feature of these poems is, in my view, their overall sense of calm and ease, which have a sort of soothing effect on the reader. By the same token, the poems‘ communicative immediacy finds in the concision of a poetic form such as the haiku a sort of natural shelter for the intellectual strategy of the poet, that is, for her quest for answers about life‘s enigmas. The spirituality of many poems evolves from there, becoming interlaced with a strong sense of what means to be human in face of the other who suffers. Last but not least, Katica‘s skillful concentration of images uncover emotions and dreams that turn the reading of each haiku a true experience in poetry and feeling. Manuel Frias Martins Lisbon
